Los Alamos Golf Course Community Building Construction Begins Tuesday

COUNTY News:

The start of construction for the Golf Course Community Building begins Tuesday, Sept. 4.  

Contractor Gerald Martin will be fencing off the southern half of the parking lot.

Patrons to the golf course will be allowed to park in a single row of angled spaces in the main lot and in the overflow parking lot on the west side of the driving range.  

There is existing signage directing traffic to the overflow parking lot. The contractor will be using a portion of the overflow parking lot as a staging area for their equipment.

Fencing Classes Resume at YMCA

 
FAMILY YMCA News:
 
The fencing classes at The Family YMCA will resume Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. for beginning fencing and 7:30 p.m. for the advanced class.
 
A beginning class for students starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 2. The class will focus on basic footwork and blade skills.
 
Register at The Family YMCA at 662-3100 or laymca.org. The cost is $24 per month for Y members or $36 per month for fencing program only members. All equipment is provided by the Y.

Candia Has a Perfect Prediction

Roxana Candia was perfect in her prediction/finish of 23.30 and was also the fastest female on the 3 mile course, which was held in the La Senda area of White Rock.
 
Ted Romero was the top male runner in the 3 mile race at 19:47 and had an excellent prediction of 8 seconds off.
 
Other noted predictors were: Matt Fair at 9 seconds off; Steve Shook with a 12 second differential; Katie Gattiker at 26 seconds off; and Tom Sandford recording a 33 second delta.

Public Scoping Underway for Bandelier Transportation Plan

The National Park Service has initiated the process to complete a Transportation Plan/Environmental Assessment to improve transportation conditions at Bandelier National Monument.

Over three decades, a number of studies and workshops have documented transportation and congestion management challenges at Bandelier National Monument, including traffic congestion at the park entrance and a lack of adequate parking in Frijoles Canyon.

Road Closure Sunday for 19th Annual Kids Triathlon

LOS ALAMOS RECREATION DIVISION News:

The Los Alamos Recreation Division will be holding the 19th annual Kids Triathlon Sunday, Aug. 19.

The following road closure will be in effect: Canyon Road will be closed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 15th Street to Central Avenue.

Explore more than 60 miles of roads on the Valles Caldera National Preserve by Mountain Bike Saturday, Aug. 25.

This event will happen only once this season, and it is open for all ages and abilities.

Participants can ride from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at one of two entrances; Banco Bonito Staging area, mile marker 30 off N.M. 4 or the Valle Grande Staging Area mile marker 39.2 off N.M. 4.

Aquatomics Place 11 in Long Course Championship

AQUATOMICS News:

The Four Corners Aquatic Team and New Mexico Swimming hosted the New Mexico Long Course State Championships Swim Meet July 19-22, at the Farmington Aquatic Center in Farmington.

A total of 446 swimmers from 22 teams attended.

The Los Alamos Aquatomics had 23 swimmers attend the championship meet; several of whom scored points for the team by finishing in the top eight in their events:
