High-Value Muscle Cars on the Auction Block

U.S. MARSHALS News:

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Marshals Service will sell more than 50 high-value muscle cars, sports cars, motorcycles and jet skis via a live auction at 10 a.m. Thursday at Apple Auctioneering Co., 14851 NW 27th Ave., Opa-Locka, Fla.

The vehicles were seized and forfeited to the federal government as part of a pill mill takedown in Broward and Miami-Dade counties in 2011.

Proceeds generated from the auction will be deposited into the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture Fund, which is used to compensate victims, supplement law enforcement programs and support community programs. Read More

ALBUQUERQUE—U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced Wednesday that Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathon M. Gerson will lead his office’s efforts in connection with the Justice Department’s nationwide Election Day Program for the upcoming Nov. 6 general elections.

Bandelier Celebrates National Archeology Day

Bandelier National Monument invites the public to celebrate National Archeology Day Saturday, Oct. 20.

“This day is set aside to encourage exploration and discovery of the rich cultural resources in the monument,” Superintendent Jason Lott said.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District announced Wednesday that Science Education Solutions of Los Alamos will receive a $2.6 million award from the National Science Foundation.

Local Woman Witnesses Endeavour’s Final Flight

Yvonne M. Deshayes of Los Alamos was in California’s Bay Area Friday where she captured history on camera. Strapped to the back of a 747 jumbo jet, the Space Shuttle Endeavour flew over the Berkeley Lab during its final flight. After a nearly five-hour aerial tour around California landmarks, the Endeavour touched down at 1 p.m. at the Los Angeles International Airport. In a few weeks, the Endeavour will move to its final home – the California Science Center, which is paying the estimated $28 million cost for shipping and handling the Endeavour’s final flight. Photo
