Shaun Sanchez Named New SFNF Forest Supervisor

SANTA FE — The USDA Forest Service Southwestern Region welcomes Shaun Sanchez, who has been selected as Forest Supervisor of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF).

Sanchez comes from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where he was the Deputy Chief of the National Wildlife Refuge System.

In his new role, he will oversee the management, conservation and enhancement of 1.6 million forested acres across six counties in the Sangre de Cristo and Jemez Mountain ranges.

New Mexico Unemployment Rate: 3.9% In December 2022

New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.9 percent in December, down from 4.1 percent in November and 5.9 percent in the previous year.

The national unemployment rate in December was 3.5 percent, down from 3.6 percent in November and 3.9 percent in December 2021.  

Total nonagricultural payroll employment grew by 19,300 jobs, or 2.3 percent, between December 2021 and December 2022. The majority of gains came from the private sector, which was up 16,000 jobs, or 2.4 percent.
