Los Alamos Ranked Among Nation’s Top Hunting and Fishing Spots

Los Alamos is ranked 28 among the “35 Best Hunting and Fishing Towns in the U.S.,” according to OutdoorLife magazine.

The publication says about Los Alamos: “Stay close to home for walleyes, catfish, bass and trout, in waters like Abiqui Lake, Rio Chama and Rio Grande. The nearby Valles Caldera National Preserve runs a lottery program for monster elk.”

New Developments in Glass Recycling

During the question and answer session of every presentation given over the last two years, I have been asked why Los Alamos does not recycle glass. Up to this point my answer has always been the same; there are no local markets, thus making glass recycling a high cost and high environmental impact activity. 

In a recent visit to the Village of Angel Fire, New Mexico County staff was exposed to a local glass recycling system that is successfully diverting glass from the landfill in a financially and environmentally responsible manner.

Underground Line Fault Causes Power Outage in Canyon St. Neighborhood

An underground line fault Thursday morning resulted in a power outage for 75 Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities customers on Canyon Street, Quartz and Rim Road.

The outage began at 5:45 a.m. and electric linemen isolated the fault and restored power at 6:30 a.m. to 21 homes and 9:10 a.m. to the remaining 54 homes.

The fault occurred in an area that DPU has scheduled for electric line replacement this summer.

County Council Approves Updated Employee Compensation Plan
