Volunteer instructors Lorenzo Martinez and Fabian Valdez of Espanola are volunteering their time and expertise to teach students at the Espanola YMCA Teen Center (EYTC) how to build “show-worthy” model cars.

Kids Raising Money for Animal Rescue
Kaity Burke, a member of Mountain School’s Green Team, shows a bin full of aluminum cans. The school is competing to collect the most aluminum cans in the state as part of the Great American Can Roundup. During the first week, students brought in over 2,000 cans. If they win, the team will receive a cash prize, which will be donated to the Heart and Soul Animal Sanctuary in Pecos. Annual Rotary Crab Fest Extravaganza Set for Sunday and You’re invited!
The Los Alamos Rotarians are set to host their third annual “All-You-Can-Eat Crab Fest” fundraiser, which includes prawns and chicken (for those who don’t eat seafood) Sunday Feb. 26 at Central Avenue Grill.

In those 100 years and before, the land that encompasses the Jemez Mountains and Pajarito Plateau has undergone many changes from open and lightly inhabited lands, to grazing land for thousands of livestock, to population development and urbanization. But even without these changes, the ecosystem is constantly changing in response to both natural and human impacts.
