Pinon’s Chihuly Exhibit Reveals Student’s Artistic Talents

Monday’s Dale Chihuly Art Exhibit at Pinon Elementary School in White Rock revealed a wealth of talent within the local student community.

The event wasn’t an exhibit of renowned artist Chihuly’s work, but he served as an inspiration to the students to create artworks resembling his style.

Students used a plastic sheet media that could be softened in warm water and bent into any desired shape, which was then painted/stained using special colored materials.

It’s swingin’ on Arizona Street in Los Alamos every Thursday night when the Craig Martin Experience (CME) gets together to jam. The seven-piece jazz combo has been together since December 2010. CME is Craig Martin on tenor saxophone, Quinn Marksteiner on alto saxophone, Carl Hagelberg on trumpet, Mike Rogers on guitar, Aaron Anderson on keyboards, John Frary on drums and Rob Heineman on bass.

The Los Alamos Community Winds Presents ‘Toys and Stories’ March 17

The Los Alamos Community Winds presents a fun family concert, “Toys and Stories,” at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17 at Crossroads Bible Church in Los Alamos. 

Like all Winds concerts, it is offered free of charge to the community.

“The music is particularly geared to the young and the young at heart,” Musical Director T. Edward (Ted) Vives said. “This is a concert for every member of the family, including the very young.”

Beautiful Bowls Available at the March 17 Empty Bowl Event

The 18th annual Empty Bowl event is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 17 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.

For a donation of $10 or more, community members can choose a hand painted bowl and enjoy a delicious soup and bread lunch with live entertainment.

Arts in Public Places to Discuss Art for White Rock Visitor Center

A meeting of the Arts in Public Places Advisory Board is set for 4:30-6 p.m. Wednesday at Mesa Public Library.

 

 

Members will discuss potential art for the White Rock Visitor Center.

When I first visited Hudson’s garage studio he immediately plopped a six-pound lump of clay onto his wheel and leaned into the amorphous blob with his whole body until it took shape.
