In tough economic times, people scale back. They tighten their belts and trim away anything unnecessary. At first glance it may appear that being frugal is no fun; however, a closer look reveals a far different picture.

Pinching pennies can unleash creativity – just take a look at what will be on sale at the Fuller Lodge Art Center’s Summer Arts and Crafts Fair, which runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday on the lawn behind Fuller Lodge.

The “Scale of Justice” sculpture created by Jemez Springs artist Troy Williams was installed today in front of the Justice Center at 2500 Trinity Dr. 

The Arts in Public Places Board (APPB) and Los Alamos County plan to hold an official dedication of the sculpture at 3 p.m., Aug. 22.

This sculpture displays 12 jurors from all walks of life, based on actual community members. They are made of steel as is the scale on which they stand. Read More

Artisan’s Market in White Rock will be Weekly Event

Owner and jewelry designer Kathy Kjeresen of Kathy’s Natural Designs participated in the first Artisan’s Market held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of The Hive on N.M. 4 in White Rock. The event is sponsored by the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce as a way to provide local and regional artists an opportunity to showcase their wares at what will now be a weekly market each Sunday. Gadbois Selected to Create Mural at UNM-Los Alamos

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos has commissioned Santa Fe artist Nick Gadbois to create a work of art for the UNM-LA campus.

The Local Selection Committee at UNM-LA sought to commission a work that would connect the campus and the Los Alamos community as well as conceptually relate to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

WHITE ROCK’S ART & ARTISANS MARKET: Call for Patrons

The Los Alamos Creative District will be having its first Art Market this Sunday, July 29. 

The location will be an outdoor space held at the Hive at 134 N.M. 4 in White Rock.

The market will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is free to the public who attend. 

The Hive is also close by the parking and shuttle stop for the Bandelier National Monument. 

We will be featuring several local artists. Michael Martinez who creates Native Jewelry, Jennifer Moss who makes handmade ethnic jewelry, Gadiel Ramirez who specializes in homemade chili and corn decorations along with produce.  Read More
