Luján Named Ranking Member of Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District announced today that he has been named Ranking Member of the House Natural Resource Committee’s Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs.

Valles Caldera Trust Releases Draft Environmental Impact Statement

The Valles Caldera Trust (Trust) released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the proposed Public Access and Use Plan (PAUP) aimed at expanding visitor access to the Valles Caldera National Preserve (preserve). The plan describes six alternatives for the development of facilities and infrastructure on the landscape including sites for a visitor center. Fire Reported Between Espanola and Chimayo
FIRE News:
Crews from Santa Fe County are responding to a fire reported at 6 p.m. today in the bosque between Espanola and Chimayo that has burned more than two acres.
Crews report the fire is crowning in the cottonwood trees and burning dense salt cedar undergrowth near Mile Marker 6 at Road 76 in the Chimayo area at the Rio Arriba County line.
Structures are threatened and evacuations have been reported in the area, possibly for a two-mile radius around the fire.

Bandelier Chief Called to Mt. Rainier Tragedy

Bandelier Superintendent Jason Lott was activated Thursday night with the National Park Service Incident Command Team and flew out early Friday morning to help with rescue operations and logistics at Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state.
Lott is expected to be on scene in Washington State for the next week or so.
