Paul F. Geisik, 23, of Los Alamos has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an incident June 19 in which he allegedly brandished a handgun at another driver.

Los Alamos Poice Cpl. Michael Weiss responded to a complaint that a white BMW convertible was being driven recklessly on San Ildefonso Road and that the driver was brandishing a revolver handgun.

When Weiss reached the area, he found the white convertible pulling onto San Ildefonso Road and conducted a vehicle stop. The convertible pulled into a driveway and Weiss waited for another LAPD unit to arrive before approaching it because of the possibility of a weapon being involved.

As soon as Cpl.  Eric Wilhoit arrived, Weiss approached the vehicle and identifieod the driver as Geisik. He told Geisik the reason for the stop and asked him if he had a gun in the vehicle. Geisik said he did and when Weiss asked him what kind, the incident report says Geisik began to repond, “38 special”, however Geisik’s father who was by then on the scene, allegedly interjected and told Geisik not to answer any more questions. At this point, Geisik said he would like an attorney and would not answer questions.

Geisik exited his vehicle and was handcuffed and placed in Weiss’s patrol car while Wilhoit went to speak to the person who had made the initial report. That person allegedly told Wilhoit that Geisik was behind him on Diamond Drive approaching the roundabout. The person told Wilhoit he had turned right onto San Ildefonso Road and the BMW continued onto North Mesa Road. They said at the intersection of San Ildefonso and North Mesa Road, the BMW got in front of them and began “brake checking” them, and that the driver had “flashed” a handgun while passing them. The person told Wilhoit he was afraid the driver would use the weapon.

Wilhoit requested a tow truck so that Geisik’s vehicle could be impounded and Weiss placed Geisik under arrest and took him to the Los Alamos County Detention Center. Geisik had his first appearance June 19 in Magistrate Court before Judge Pat Casados and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 27.
