LANL NEWS:
At about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Los Alamos police and firefighters left the scene of a HazMat incident that began just before noon at the east end of DP Road.

HazMat Situation Winding Down
Los Alamos Deputy Police Chief Kevin Purtymun just reported that as of 1:43 p.m. today, the air monitors surrounding the HazMat spill near Enclosure 12 toward the far end of DP Road are registering clean.
“The roadblocks at the intersection of DP Road and Trinity Drive are being removed and placed down around the building involved while cleanup work there continues,” Purtymun said. “The roadblocks were placed at the entrance to DP Road as a precautionary measure until the situation was assessed. The public can now come and go nomally along the majority of DP Road.” Read More
DP Road Residents Ordered to Shelter in Place
Coordinator Philmont Taylor of the Los Alamos County Emergency Management Department just released a reverse 911 meesage ordering all residents along DP Road to shelter in place.
The cause for this emergency is a hazmat leak in Enclosure 12 at TA-21, Taylor said.
DP Road residents are to stay inside and close off all ventilation to the outside until they hear the “all clear” signal.

DP Road Shut Down Due to TA-21 HazMat Issue
DP Road is shut down at about noon today because of some type of hazmat issue at Technical Area 21.
Police are directing drivers away from the intersection of DP Road at Trinity Drive.
There is a report of a small brush fire at TA-21 and police and other emergency responders are on scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires a permit on construction cranes any time that they will exceed a 100:1 sloped surface from the nearest point of the nearest airport runway out to 20,000 feet or 200 feet above ground level.
“We are right on the edge of the affected area of the airport,” said Dan Erickson, capital projects division manager. “It’s better to be safe than sorry so we decided to go ahead and apply for a permit to the FAA – we’re hoping it won’t slow the project.”

Monday’s Dale Chihuly Art Exhibit at Pinon Elementary School in White Rock revealed a wealth of talent within the local student community.
The event wasn’t an exhibit of renowned artist Chihuly’s work, but he served as an inspiration to the students to create artworks resembling his style.
Students used a plastic sheet media that could be softened in warm water and bent into any desired shape, which was then painted/stained using special colored materials.

Early Los Alamos National Laboratory Video from the Hugh Bradner Collection
The Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has recently released a new ten minute portion of physicist Hugh Bradner's amazing "peak-at-life" home movie clips from early Laboratory days, filmed from 1943 to 1945.
Bradner, a physicist at Los Alamos, was granted informal permission to use his video camera inside the New Mexico town that didn't official exist. Bradner took home movies of some of the top secret work being conducted at Los Alamos.
