WILLIAM LEE MUDD April 12, 1931 – Dec. 17, 2023

An incredible man earned his wings with his loving family by his side on December 17, 2023.

William Lee Mudd was born on April 12, 1931, in Peoria, IL to Lela and William C. Mudd. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950 and served 3 years during the Korean conflict. He married his sweetheart, Joan E. Hoepfner, also from Peoria, upon his return to the US.

Bill earned his BS in physics, and the couple headed West. They arrived in Los Alamos in 1959 where he worked his entire career. He retired at 57, and he and Joan explored NM living in Albuquerque, Corrales and Conchas Dam. Friends from Illinois introduced them to Tucson, AZ where they settled full time in 2007.

Bill was a devoted family man with the highest integrity. He had a great sense of humor as well. He loved his family, camping, animals, golfing, bowling, fishing, tinkering on cars, and anything chocolate.

Bill is survived by his wife of 70 years, Joan E. Mudd, his son William H. Mudd (Jackie) and grandson William (Will), his daughter Laura E. Solano and granddaughter Sabrina Spellman.

He showed courage and strength the last 3 years of his life as he fought MDS and ITP with a champion’s heart. His family was with him every step of the way. He is cherished and will be missed forever.

No services will be held. William will be interred at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
