Obituary: Maura A. Mullaney Feb. 15, 2024

MAURA A. MULLANEY Feb. 15, 2024

It is with deep sorrow to announce the passing of Maura Ann Mullaney of Los Alamos, NM on February 15, 2024, at the age of 57. Born to Carol Ann and Paul F Mullaney, Maura enjoyed her youth in Los Alamos, NM and Oak Ridge, TN. Some favorite memories included her teenage year in Frankfurt, Germany and travel in Europe.

Maura graduated high school in Oak Ridge, TN, following with a BA in Accounting and Business Management from Bellarmine College, KY in 1990, with a minor in music. She completed an MBA in Finance and Financial Management Services; also achieving a specialty degree in Management Information Systems at the College of Santa Fe. Maura worked in accounting for over 35 years with the Los Alamos National Laboratory and Los Alamos County, and was a team member at LANL recognized with DOE Honor Awards.

Maura loved music and as accomplished violinist was actively involved in local symphony and musical theater throughout her life. After moving to Los Alamos in 1990, she played with the Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra, LA Light Opera, the Little Theater, Chamber Music, and Los Alamos high school music productions with her friends. She traveled to New York City to experience classic Broadway shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Lion King and 1776.

A dear friend to many, she often quickly volunteered to help with weddings, birthday parties, and anything else on short notice. As many know, like the Iris flower, Maura’s favorite color was purple. She cared and adored all animals, especially cats including unique names for her and family cats “Stubby”, “Hisser” and “Brat”. Her free time included caring for many neighbors’ dogs and cats.

Maura is survived by her brother Dr. Brian Mullaney. She was adored and will be missed by her “adopted” family in Oak Ridge and New York. A memorial service will be planned for this spring in Los Alamos. In lieu of flowers, Maura’s request would be for donations to the Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra.
