MARY R. ROMERO Feb. 25, 2025
The family of Mary R. Romero of La Villita, NM is saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the age of 76 years due to a lengthy illness. Mary was a caregiver and retired with Santa Maria El Mirador, also working for the Española Public Schools for many years.
Mary loved attending church and fellowshipping with her church family, spending time with friends and family, camping, yard sales and thrift store hopping (with her ride or die sister, Edna), traveling, watching Gunsmoke (Matt & Kittie) and Bonanza (The Cartwrights). She loved her pets (including her chickens who were named after the rich and famous) and all strays that came along.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter; Tomasita Martinez; parents Joe and Luisa Padilla; sister(s) Lourdes Maestas and Donna Abeyta. Brothers Ross, Eddie, Leonard, Ronnie, and Ricky Padilla. Brother-in-law Herbert Romero and sister-in-law Jane Romero.
She is survived by her husband Ted Romero of La Villita; daughters Janice Romero, Jennifer [Heath] Law, and Patricia Romero. Son Rubel Romero. Grandsons Johnny and Derek Gallegos, Moritz Lopez, Fabian Archuleta, and Crucito Martinez. Granddaughters Cheryl Gallegos, Angelik Galvan, Samantha Lopez, Leandra Romero, and Tessa Sanchez. Four Great Grandsons and one Great Granddaughter. Brothers Fabian [Christine] Padilla and Nelson Padilla. Sisters Bernie Vigil, Edna [Regino] Salazar, Dolores Diaz, and Manuelita [Jose] Padilla. Brother-in-laws Tony [Priscilla] Romero and Leroy [Liz] Romero. Sister-in- laws Helen Gomez, Alvera Edmonds, and Emily [Gene] Lopez. Well over 100 nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many friends and family who reached out with phone calls, visits, assisting with the care of our mother, special thanks to Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Services; her nurse Melissa Williams, chaplain Leah Blackwell, social worker Jenn Neil, and Mike and Louella Vigil in helping with our mother’s care. Thanks, also, to our Pastors Joey [Lori] Lopez, Art [Dolores] Salazar, and Mike [Gloria] Naranjo for your visits and prayers.
A praise and worship service will be held in her honor on Sunday, March 2, 2025, @ 5 pm; at The Rock Christian Fellowship 919 N. Riverside Dr. Española, NM 87532 with Pastors Mike Naranjo, Joey Lopez, and Art Salazar.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, @ 11 am; at The Rock Christian Fellowship at 919 N. Riverside Dr. Española, NM with Pastor Joey Lopez officiating, and Noelle Maestas to read the eulogy.
A luncheon will follow at the Hernandez Community Center in Hernandez, NM.
