MARIE M. MARTINEZ Feb. 10, 1945 – March 26, 2024

Marie M. Martinez, 79, of Chimayo, NM, passed away peacefully in her home on March 26, 2024.

Marie was proceeded in death by her parents, Delfinio and Clorinda Fernandez; son Douglas Martinez; grandson Julian Martinez; brothers Wilber Martinez; Eluid Martinez; and mother-in-law Refugio Martinez.

She is survived by her husband of 61years, Jose F. Martinez; children Gary and Glenn (Phyllis); grandchildren Ashley (Alejandro), Stephan (Kelly), Nicole, Celeste (Brandon), Michelle, Janelle (Terry), 13 great-grandchildren and sister Donna Romero (David).

Marie was born on February 10, 1945, in Gilman, Colorado. She moved to New Mexico with her family at a young age. Here is where she resided and met the love her life, Jose F. Martinez. She was known to many while working at Walgreens for over 25 years and for her delicious tortillas and baked goods. To know her was to love her. She was a beautiful soul and her strong faith kept her grounded. Marie’s dedication to her family was unwavering. Her sons and her grandchildren were her everything. She touched many hearts and will be missed dearly.

A Public Viewing will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 5:30 pm, with Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM.  

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, a Rosary will be recited at 1:00 pm, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 2:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, NM.

Burial will take place at a later date.
