JEROME E. DUMMER Nov. 21, 1930 – Jan. 14, 2024
Jerome E. Dummer died on Sunday January 14, 2024, at 93 years old. He died peacefully with his daughters by his side after a short illness.
He was born November 21, 1930, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He married Jean, the love of his life, on June 1, 1952, after attending Colorado College together. He obtained his degree in Physics from CC and his master’s degree from Vanderbilt University.
After graduate school and two years in Maryland in the US Army, they settled permanently in Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1953. He worked for over 30 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) as a Health Physicist and after retirement consulted for various firms in California and Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jean of 65 years, his sons Gregory Jerome and John Roberts, and his favorite dog Pete.
He is survived by his daughter Sarah, and husband Corby, of White Rock, and daughter Martha, and husband Spencer of Santa Fe. He also leaves two grandsons, Seth Daly and wife Ashley of Albuquerque, and Dylan Daly and wife Sheena, currently stationed in Japan.
Mom and dad had a true love of travel. They went all over the country and all over the world hiking and sunning and experiencing wonderful food. Their favorites seemed to be Hawaii and New Zealand. Dad journaled every day of his 60+ trips with the things they saw and things they did, but also things like “Had oysters for lunch, nice clean bathrooms, good breakfast but terrible service, and three dollars for a cup of coffee!?”
Dad was a great man and a special and loving father. He was creative, funny, curious, intelligent, and humble. He loved his family and friends and the many animals he adopted throughout his life.
He was also a brilliant woodworker and worked with many of the antique tools he inherited from his father and great grandfather.
He will be missed dearly.
