HARVEY A. ROSE Nov. 9, 1947 – April 9, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harvey A. Rose on April 9, 2024, at the age of 76. Harvey was a cherished husband, father, brother, and a distinguished scientist.
Born on November 9, 1947, in Manhattan to Bessie and Michael Rose, he excelled academically from a young age and started higher education at City College of New York in 1963 at the age of 16, earning a bachelor’s degree. He later graduated with a PhD from Harvard.
Harvey’s professional life was marked by his time at Los Alamos National Laboratory, starting in 1977. His contributions to plasma physics, fluid dynamics, and statistical physics garnered him respect and accolades in the scientific community. In 2007 he became a laboratory fellow. He retired in 2012 after 35 years of service.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Sherry King, and daughters Deserae and Conalee Rose. Harvey is also survived by his brother Alan Rose and sister-in-law Claire Rose.
Harvey was an avid cook, a fan of vintage television, particularly the original “Perry Mason” series, and enjoyed casual birdwatching. His affection was not limited to his family but extended to his beloved pets, cats Jay and Ella, and puppy Merry.
A memorial to celebrate Harvey’s life and contributions will be held at the Anomalous Absorption Conference in June, where his colleagues will honor his work. Additionally, the family will host a private gathering to share memories of Harvey, with the date and location to be determined.
Harvey’s life combined profound outspoken intellect and quiet humility which touched all who knew him with intelligence and kindness.
