DONALD ELDEN CARTER Dec. 29, 1944 – Feb. 11, 2024
Don Carter, age 79, died February 11, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Don was born December 29, 1944, in La Junta, Colorado.
Preceded in death by parents Bill and Dorothy Carter, sister-in-law Roberta Carter, step-mother Letha Carter, and step-brother J.D. Scofield.
Survived by wife Donna Carter, daughter, Donnette (Jeff) Lewis, granddaughter Rachel (Michael Owen) Ehler, great granddaughter Piper Owen, brother Melvin Carter, step-sisters Gwen Richardson and Michelle (Alan) Strong, sister-in-law LaWanna (Leonard) Hendrickson, and multiple nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of life-long friends.
Don was proud to serve his Country before beginning his career as an accomplished machinist, working at the Denver Mint, and then at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. Don and Donna owned and operated a successful machine shop in Española, New Mexico, and an ostrich ranch adventure in La Junta, Colorado.
They finally retired in Las Vegas, Nevada to be near their family. Don loved large gatherings and being surrounded by friends and family. He was a protector, and provider to all. His presence was larger than life and he will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life for Don will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on May 26, 2024, at the Gobin Building in Rocky Ford, Colorado.
