NMRA Campaign Promotes Working In Restaurants

NMRA CEO Carol Wight

NMRA News:

The New Mexico Restaurant Association (NMRA) announces they are bringing back their “Hungry for Success” employment campaign.

Due to the “massive success” they experienced in fall of 2021 with connecting prospective employees with industry jobs, they felt now was the perfect time to reintroduce the campaign to address the continued shortage of employees the industry is still experiencing.

The Hungry for Success campaign features an industry focused job board where members can post open positions and job seekers can find listings for all types of roles, from entry-level to management positions. Throughout the month NMRA will be publishing blogs and social media content aimed at promoting the benefits of a hospitality career and helping restaurants hire and retain staff.

“We’re proud to support the growth and success of both the restaurant industry and the people who make it special,” NMRA CEO Carol Wight said. “The Hungry for Success campaign is just one of the many ways we’re doing that.”

The restaurant industry offers a range of career paths, from culinary arts and  management to marketing and technology. In a fast-paced environment, employees can gain valuable skills and experiences that can be applied to any industry, making it a great starting point for anyone looking to build a  career.

“The restaurant industry is not just about serving food. It’s about bringing  people together and creating a sense of community,” Wight said. “Working in a restaurant provides more than just a paycheck. It provides a sense of  purpose, camaraderie, and growth opportunities.”

The restaurant industry is always-on, which means that it can offer a lot of flexibility in terms of scheduling, making it appealing for those who are looking for a career that allows them to balance work with other commitments.

Working in a restaurant facilitates interactions with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. This can be a great way to learn about different cultures and expand personal experiences.

According to the National Restaurant Association, the restaurant industry is home to a diverse workforce. Four in 10 restaurant managers and supervisors are minorities, as are six in 10 chefs. Restaurants also provide opportunities to women of all ages and at all stages of their careers. In fact, 37 percent of women got their first jobs in a restaurant and in New Mexico 57 percent of restaurant operations are at least 50 percent owned by women – compared to 47 percent of businesses in the overall private sector. The restaurant industry is a strong driver of entrepreneurship, offering training, experience, and a path to  success for men and women of virtually all ethnicities and backgrounds.

NMRA encourages both employers and job seekers to take advantage of the resources available through the Hungry for Success campaign. Whether you’re looking to start your career, make a change, or fill an open position, NMRA is here to help.
