NMAL News:
SANTA FE — The New Mexico Actors Lab opens The Half Life of Marie Curie Nov. 20, a play that revels in the power of female friendship as it explores the relationship between two brilliant women, both fearless champions of scientific inquiry. The production will run through Sunday, Dec. 7.
Following our success with the Pulitzer-prize winning How I Learned to Drive, we are continuing our fall season with another renowned female playwright, Lauren Gunderson, dubbed “the most produced playwright in America” by American Theatre Magazine.
In 1911, Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her discovery of radium and polonium. By 1912, she was the object of intense gossip over an alleged affair, all but erasing her achievements from public memory. Weakened and demoralized, Marie joins her friend Hertha Ayrton, an electromechanical engineer and suffragette, to recover from the scandal at Hertha’s seaside retreat on the British coast. This season closer will be directed by NMAL founder Robert Benedetti. This will be Mr. Benedetti’s 23rd show with NMAL and the 6th major role of Suzanne Lederer, who will be playing Hertha Ayerton.
Tickets are now on sale at the NMAL website, www.nmactorslab.com. Flex Passes are $96 (three shows or admissions, 20% off).
