Letter To The Editor: Endorsement For Antonio Jaurigue

By MARGIE SERRATO
Candidate For School Board District 1

Before I met Antonio Jaurigue, I first learned about him through an article in the Los Alamos Daily Post titled “LAPS Board President Discusses Upcoming Resignation” (April 23, 2024).

Three things stood out to me immediately:

  • 1) He chose to resign in order to maintain the integrity of the school board position;
  • 2) He stepped down to support his spouse’s professional advancement; and
  • 3) He prioritized the district’s need for qualified teachers over his own role.

To me, these are the actions of a person guided by integrity and a deep sense of ethical responsibility.

Soon after I registered my candidacy, Antonio reached out by e-mail to offer his support. Knowing the challenges of a first-time campaign, he extended an open invitation to connect. When we met, it became clear that we shared a vision rooted in academic excellence, the importance of mental health and social-emotional wellness, and cultivating civic responsibility among students.

Over the past two months, Antonio has been a steadfast source of encouragement as I’ve learned to navigate this first foray into public office. I have witnessed his actions firsthand and have heard countless stories from community members about their positive interactions with him. Antonio consistently brings out the best in children and adults because he leads with sincerity, generosity, and genuine care.

Antonio has earned my deepest respect and admiration, both as a colleague and as a friend. He has made me feel welcome in a community where being the “new kid in town” can feel unsettling or downright isolating–even though most of us share that experience when we choose to make Los Alamos our home.

If you live in District 2, I wholeheartedly encourage you to vote for Antonio Jaurigue. His love for this community shines through in everything he does.
