Housing: Let Your Voices Be Heard July 23

By DAVID HAMPTON
Chair
Transportation Board

Los Alamos County residents, are you impacted by the high cost of and general unavailability of housing, or the increased accidents, fatalities, and exhaust emissions from traffic commuting in and out? How about the difficulty receiving services because providers can’t find housing? Think teachers, medical professionals, nonprofits, police, fire, restaurants, retail, etc.

If so, you will be positively impacted by additional housing in Los Alamos County and have standing to testify about this impact at Planning and Zoning Commission hearings to approve new housing developments.

On July 23, at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, you will have the opportunity to speak in support of adding 51-52 units to the previously approved 85-unit Arbolada Subdivision on North Mesa. This development will include a healthy mix of single-family and multi-family low/mid-density housing, a model for future development, incrementally improving our lack of workforce housing on a parcel of land that has always been planned for housing.

It is important that you show up to testify about the positives because a small number of individuals showed up at the June 11 hearing and testified that adding these 51-52 additional units would negatively impact their health and safety, swaying a couple of commissioners. Let your voice be heard; your opponents are making sure they are heard.

Housing is a human dignity issue. Let’s build it.
