As we begin a new year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to everyone in our UNM-Los Alamos community. I hope your holiday season was restful and joyful, filled with meaningful time spent with family, friends and those who bring light into your life. The start of a new year always invites reflection, and I am grateful for the continued support for our local community college.
In December, many community members joined us in celebrating the 45th anniversary of UNM-LA — a milestone that honors decades of learning, growth and service in our community. Thank you to everyone who came out to participate. Your presence made the celebration truly special and reminded us of the deep connections that make our campus such a special place to learn and work.
Looking ahead, 2026 will bring even more reasons to celebrate. This year marks the 70th anniversary of UNM’s presence in Los Alamos, and we hope to plan a larger, community-wide celebration to honor this remarkable history. It is a moment not only to look back at what we have achieved together, but to look forward to the future we are building.
Part of that future is already taking shape on our campus. You may have noticed the progress on our new front entrance, as well as heard about the work that will take place in our courtyard. These improvements are part of a long-term vision to create a more welcoming environment for our students, employees and community partners.
None of these upgrades would be possible without you. We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of the Los Alamos community, as well as the critical funding provided by the State of New Mexico, Los Alamos County, county general obligation bonds, and the statewide higher education general obligation bonds. Your investment in UNM-LA is an investment in students, in opportunity and in the future of our region.
As we begin this new year — and as we prepare to celebrate 70 years of education in Los Alamos — I want to thank you once again for your unwavering support. I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in 2026.
