‘Earth Is The Magnet Of The Sky’ Opening Reception Saturday June 14 In Step Up Gallery

STEP UP GALLERY News:

The not-to-be-missed art exhibit “Earth is the Magnet of the Sky” opens Friday in Step Up Gallery at Mesa Public Library, with an opening reception, 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14.

The accomplished artist Catherine Eaton Skinner will give a gallery talk at 2:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and all are welcome to attend.

This exhibit will grace the gallery walls through Thursday, July 24.

Two ravens stand grounded and unified, connected through mind and spirit, thus amplifying their shared power. Created with sumi ink on archival paper, the piece is mounted on a wood panel and then infused with layers of encaustic wax and oil stick.

A well of light, whether seen as a vertical canyon or an aerial waterway, invites multiple metaphysical interpretations. Layers of oil stick are fused into encaustic wax on a linen-covered wood panel.

As the seasons shift, precious water floods and nourishes the earth. This transformation is echoed in layers of oil stick fused into encaustic wax on a linen-covered wood panel.

Much of the media employed in this exhibit’s artwork includes encaustic wax, oil stick, graphite, beeswax, archival ink on linen panels or microfiber paper. The sculptures are in bronze.

Skinner’s awards include selections for art display at the U.S. Embassy, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea 2020-2023, Art in Embassies Program; Acclaimed Artists Series 2020-2022, Art in Public Places, New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs; and the U.S. Embassy, Tokyo, Japan 2012-2013, Art in Embassies Program. Residencies include Santa Fe Art Institute, Santa Fe, New Mexico (1999, 2000) and Pilchuck Glass School, Stanwood, Washington (2019, 2013, 2005).

Public collections include Boeing Corporation; Henry Art Museum; Tacoma Art Museum; Museum of Northwest Art; Virginia Mason Medical Center; Seattle University’s Seeds of Compassion Collection and the Swedish Orthopedic Institute.
