County Concludes Brush and Bulk Item Collection in Townsite
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County has concluded its Brush and Bulk Item collection service for the Los Alamos townsite.
Disposal of any material remaining at the curb in the townsite is the responsibility of the home owner.
This weekend, (April 28-29) there is free disposal at the County Eco Station in order to help residents beautify the community and prepare for wildfire season.
Also, a special pickup can be arranged at a charge of $65 per hour by calling 662-8163.

Work is underway on making contacts and seeking interest from potential additional retail tenants for the Trinity Site Revitalization Project to complement the Smith’s Marketplace store.

Sheriff Files Proposed Amendment to Charter
Sheriff Marco Valentino Lucero filed in the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office Thursday a proposed amendment to Los Alamos County Charter 304.3 “Duties of the Sheriff and Police.”

Springtime 2012: 50 Hikes in the Los Alamos Area

Many years ago, Frances Arnold, Carol Carlson and Maxine Ellis created a 50 Hikes trail list for friends who wanted to explore our beautiful mesas, canyons, and mountains. The Santa Fe National Forest later adopted the list as a convenience for visitors.
Despite subsequent publication of a number of hiking books for the area, the list still serves its purpose as a quick introduction to the east side of the Jemez Mountains. As years go by, changing conditions require that the list be revised periodically.

County Council Tables Amending LAPS Leases
Councilor Vincent Chiravalle proposed an ordinance amending and restating both the Master Ground Lease Agreement and the Airport Basin Lease Agreement between the County and Los Alamos Public Schools. If approved, the changes would result in some $200,000 annually to the schools. Council voted 6-1 to table the measure until the Trinity Site Project is solidified. Los Alamos Site Office Deputy Manager Juan Griego addressed the Los Alamos County Council this evening ragarding the Departments of Energy’s 885 acres of land in Rendija Canyon slated to be conveyed to Los Alamos County within a year’s time. Local Detectives Collecting Unused Prescription Drugs Saturday
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. April 28 in the Los Alamos Medical Center Parking lot, detectives from the Los Alamos Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) fourth National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The Los Alamos County Recreation Division is hosting the Queen’s Court Competition on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
The competition will determine the Los Alamos County Fair and Rodeo Queen, Princess and Sweetheart.
