County Council is Underway and First up is Public Comment
James Rickman spoke to Council from the perspective of one who rides a bicycle around the community. He mentioned that he has observed many motorists texting while driving and said that drivers in virtually every County vehicle that he has observed are texting while driving. He asked Council to consider some type of law with meat and teeth against texting while driving that might be equivalent to, as an example, a fourth degree felony a person would be charged with for walking around with a gun. Dog Jog 2012 Results
The 2012 Friends of the Shelter Dog Jog was held Saturday, April 28th. Dog Jog sponsor Pet Pangaea has provided photos and results from this years jog. The 2012 Los Alamos Dog Jog was coordinated by the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club, Mountain Canine Corps, and the Atomic City Roadrunners as a fund raising benefit for the Friends of the Shelter.

Forbes has published its list of the richest counties in the United States.
Los Alamos comes in fourth and four suburbs in Washington, D.C. comprise the other wealthiest counties on the top five list.

Mesa Public Library to Host Display of Historic J. Robert Oppenheimer Photographs

The J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee (JROMC) will present an exhibit of historic photos entitled “J. Robert Oppenheimer: Photographs From His Life: 1904 – 1967” at the Mesa Public Library Gallery, 2400 Central Ave. from May 2 to May 30. The public is encouraged to visit the exhibit.
An opening reception will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. May 3, at the Mesa Public Library Gallery upstairs. Refreshments will be served and members of the JROMC will be on hand to answer questions.

DPU Replacing 13 Power Poles in White Rock in May – Brief Power Interruptions Expected
Electric upgrades associated with REDI‐Net, the Regional Economic Development Initiative’s Broadband “Middle Mile” network, may cause brief power interruptions as 13 power poles are replaced in White Rock during May.
The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will oversee the pole replacement project in early May, along a pole corridor extending from Sherwood Boulevard to Overlook Park, and from N.M. 4 to Piñon Elementary School.

Community Water Tank Rehab Reason for Minor Water Issues
DPU News:
Residents around downtown Los Alamos may be experiencing minor affects from the drainage, lead abatement, repair and repainting underway on the community water tank above 47th Street and Trinity Drive.

Police Win Money for Special Olympics during Benefit Basketball Game
Los Alamos Police were up 37-29 at half time in today’s exhibition basketball game against Espanola Police but the final score ended at Espanola Police 71, Los Alamos Police 65. The game was played in the gymnasium at Northern New Mexico College in Espanola and raised $288 for Special Olympics. “It was a great game that raised money to benefit a very worthy cause … we had a good crowd and everyone had a good time so it was a very successful event,” said Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy, adding that next year’s game will be played in Los Alamos.
