New Mexico got another dose of winter Tuesday and the colder temperatures are lingering over Northern New Mexico today.

The weather pattern is almost ideal for the weekend angler, with the lousy weather hitting during the middle of the week. Weekends lately have been sunny with above-average temperatures.

The temperatures are forecast to be in the mid-50’s in the Espanola Valley and should be mild all across the state this weekend.

An excellent time to get out and enjoy some mid-winter fishing. Even ice-fishing can be pleasant if there’s not too much wind and a warm sun. The surface of the ice can get wet and slushy, while streambanks can get slippery and muddy. Be sure to have on some good, waterproof footwear.

The Family YMCA,  is taking applications packages for employment in their Summer Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program from now through March 16.

The positions are open to all regional youth.

BLM: Prescribed Burns Near Tres Piedras And Cerro

TAOS – Beginning Feb. 1 and continuing for up to 30 days, the Bureau of Land Management will be conducting prescribed burns in the Río Grande del Norte National Monument on the Guadalupe Mountains, located 1 mile south of Cerro.

Smoke may be visible from highways NM 522, U.S. 285 and U.S. 64.

The goal of this project is to employ management-ignited prescribed fire to reduce hazardous fuel loadings that could contribute to high intensity crown fire under the right conditions.
