NMDCA News:
Native Bound Unbound, Los Luceros Historic Site, the Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area, and the Mellon Foundation present the community event, “Breaking the Silence of Slavery” Program at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 20, at Los Luceros Historic Site.
The free event is hosted at Los Luceros Historic Site to share the stories of the Indigenous enslaved and is critical for tribal communities who were impacted by the loss, and for descendants of those taken.
These stories have been quieted over the years by whispers as much as by silence, though the memories and consciousness of them persists.
Native Bound Unbound and their partners invite these communities to join together to share stories, photos, objects, and documents in the spirit of recovering the stories of enslaved Indigenous people. For questions or to RSVP email info@nativeboundunbound.org.
This community partnership offers an opportunity for Indigenous people to share their stories in a safe and respectful environment.
