Jan McDonald Jazz Trio to Perform at Blue Window Saturday Night

Things will swing at the Blue Window Bistro on Saturday, Feb 11 when the restaurant hosts a Jazz Night featuring the Jan McDonald Jazz Trio.

The Trio will perform from 7- 9 p.m. with Donna Smith on piano, Richard Snider on bass and Jan McDonald on trumpet and flugelhorn. Tickets are $15 per person and dinner reservations are required at 662-6305.

The regular dinner menu will be offered from 5-9 p.m. All menus are posted at labluewindowbistro.com. Walk-ins will be accommodated if possible.

One Roundabout Included in Council’s N.M. 502 Vote

More than one resident and councilor speaking during public comment at Tuesday night’s county council meeting praised County Engineering Manager Kyle Zimmerman for devising a “win-win” option on the emotionally charged N.M. 502 corridor project between DP Road and Airport Road.

County council voted 6-1 to approve Option 1 for the N.M. 502 design option project. Councilor Vincent Chiravalle cast the sole no vote.

PEEC Offers Backyard Bird ID Class and Free Proenneke Film at Reel Deal

PEEC will offer their popular class “What’s That Bird in my Backyard?” from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Individual registration is $10 or $9 for PEEC members and family registration is $20 or $18 for members.

Veteran birder Dave Yeamans will offer guidance on recognizing the most common winter birds in Los Alamos and White Rock.

Yeamans uses photos, books and websites to help participants get started with basic birding, or increase intermediate expertise. He will teach tips for recognizing birds by their colors, silhouette, behavior and feeding habits.

Girls Hockey Team Young but Competitive

Now in its second season, the Los Alamos U12 Girls hockey team has improved substantially over its inaugural season. This group of 16 girls will face Gunnison at home Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 12.

In the 2010-11 season, the Los Alamos Hockey Association formed this team comprised of girls ages 12 and under. The team was young, drawing from three different hockey age groups to roster enough girls to play. Local Doctor Returns From Fourth Deployment

Dr. Paul Daly, a Family Practice physician with Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico in Los Alamos, recently returned from his fourth mobilization as an Army Reserve medical officer. During this deployment, Dr. Daly was assigned to the 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) Brigade as their Command Surgeon.
