CALVIN EUGENE KLATT March 17, 2025 – Aug. 15,1931
Calvin Eugene Klatt passed onto glory on Monday March 17, 2025. He was born in Syracuse, Kansas on August 15,1931. His family fled the worst Midwest dustbowl when he was three years old moving to Torrance County where they bought land to farm. They lived and worked in the Estancia Valley and Calvin graduated from Estancia high school in 1950. Then he joined the Navy and fought in the Korean war. In 1952 he married Oneta Norris, they lived in Santa Fe until moving to Los Alamos in 1955.
Calvin and Oneta had four children in Los Alamos before moving to East Texas to attend Letourneau College where Calvin earned his degree in 1963. Shortly after they returned to Los Alamos where he worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory at TA-55. Calvin was a leader in the community through children and youth ministry, booster club, coaching basketball, football, and baseball.
He retired as a staff member in 1990. In retirement Calvin and Oneta spent time traveling around the United States, tending to their ranch in Mcintosh, boating, dancing, playing card games, and visiting their children and grandchildren. He was an excellent tennis player; best doubles partner one could find. Calvin also generously supported many charitable organizations locally and around the world throughout his life.
He was an extremely positive person. He had a zest for life that was infectious. He loved to laugh and joke with everyone around him. His curious nature carried into his older years, he loved to learn new things and share them with others. Calvin provided a great example of hard work ethic and grit. He shared his love for various projects with his family. Many grandchildren learned to use tools and build things with grandpa. He enjoyed working in his very neatly organized shop.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, wife Oneta and son Curtis Klatt.
He is survived by Wayne (Debby) Klatt, Deborah (Sam) de la Cruz, Karen (Wayne) Griffin.
He was proud of his 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He encouraged, supported, and loved his family very much.
