Gurpal (Paul) Singh opened his India House on Wheels Tuesday, Nov. 19 in the parking area between Sirphey and LA Liquor & Indian Groceries on Trinity Drive.

“People from here come to eat at my India House restaurant in Santa Fe and tell me there is no place in Los Alamos that offers Indian cuisine,” he said. “Opening a restaurant is risky because this is a small town but if I can build a good customer base I may open a restaurant in a building here in the future.”

Singh explained that he worked at the India House restaurant in Santa Fe for about six years before buying the business 2 and a half years ago. India House has been in operation for 32 years in Santa Fe, he said.

Singh shared a few suggestions that he has found would help him to serve his India House on Wheels customers more quickly. He asks his lunchtime customers to please order from the menu rather than à la carte.

“We have a system and I can have lunch menu items prepared for the customers in 3 minutes but if they order à la carte it takes longer and they have to give me extra time,” he said. “But I really want to thank the people here – they wait and don’t get upset.”

Singh added that because his food truck is a smaller space than a restaurant and the line can get long, he encourages people to order online at indiahouseonwheels.com, and give him time to prepare their order. He also encourages customers to scan the QR code below. He mentioned that he will have a mobile app soon that people can download.

“India House on Wheels prepares every meal as a celebration of Indian culture and culinary artistry. We are passionate about bringing authentic Indian flavors to the community,” his website states. “Our chefs, hailing from various regions of India, have crafted a menu that showcases the rich diversity of Indian cuisine, from the spicy curries of the North to the fragrant dishes of the South. Whether you’re a longtime lover of Indian food or trying it for the first time, we invite you to join us on a culinary journey that promises to tantalize your taste buds. Come experience the warmth and richness of Indian hospitality at Indian House on Wheels!”

“I want to ask the community to please keep supporting me so I can stay here,” Singh said.

India House on Wheels is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday. However, it will be closed on Thanksgiving but Singh said his India House restaurant at 2501 Cerrillos Road in Santa Fe will be open 5-9 p.m., and offer an organic turkey buffet.
