MSA News:

JEMEZ SPRINGS —Mission Street Arts (MSA) in Jemez Springs will host a free, hands on workshop 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 29 at Jemez Springs Plaza gazebo, led by artist-in-residence Jenna Annunziato.

The free workshop is a collage session where participants will be asked to recollect a memory and transform seemingly insignificant objects into art, to encapsulate that memory.

Annunziato is a visual artist, who received her BFA from State University of NY. Her Exhibitions include: Hudson Valley New Folk at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art and the Kingston Annual showcase at the Kingston Art Society, among others. She is a member of Redline Contemporary Art Center’s satellite studio program and works out of the Evans School in the Golden Triangle in Denver, where she lives. Annuniziato is a visiting artist-in-residence at MSA through July 31, 2023.

“My interest in memory comes directly from my practice of focusing on discarded objects that have a history,” Annunziato said. “Creating a painting inspired by these objects memorializes them by building a new relationship with the subject matter outside the context of art. Art allows you to consider things in a new way, it is the anchor that can make a memory stronger.”

The free workshop will encourage participants to focus on memories and the role colors, patterns and shapes take in them. They may create a drawing based on a seemingly mundane experience, such as buying vegetables from a Farmer’s Market, or they may use paper to cut out and create a collage of a more distant but nostalgic memory. The project will culminate in a single collage made from each participant’s art. The workshop is intended  to inspire collaboration by sparking conversation and connection through traditional collage.

The workshop is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jemez Springs Plaza gazebo at 80 Jemez Springs Plaza in Jemez Springs. Participants are encouraged to bring materials such as newspapers, magazines or anything that can be cut or painted. Scissors and paintings supplies will be provided.

This event is in association with the Jemez Springs Public Library. For more information, visit  https://missionstreetarts.com/upcoming-residencies/ or call Billy Ehret at 917.450.2334 or email billyehret@missionstreetarts.com.
