The Los Alamos School Board is in search of a person to fill the vacancy left on the board with the departure of current member Dr. Margie Serrato who represents School Board District 1. Member Serrato cited for her resignation effective March 26, “pressing family obligations that demand an expeditious relocation”.
The School Board will begin accepting applications from residents of District 1 through March 26, and hopes to decide on an applicant to fill the vacancy at the School Board meeting April 14, 2026. The term will run through Dec. 31, 2026.
School board members are responsible for overseeing the Superintendent of Los Alamos Public Schools, approving the district’s annual budget, and promoting the overall success and well-being of the school district as a whole. School board members are required to attend two School Board meetings per month, as well as any special meetings that are scheduled.
In addition, school board members must complete training credits with the New Mexico School Board Association and participate on selected committees created by the School Board.
Applicants must be a registered voter, over 18 years of age, and reside in District 1. Click here to view the district maps.
Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, including relevant experience and attributes that you would bring to the position, to Board Secretary Nancy Brugh at n.brugh@laschools.net or drop off the letter of interest at 2075 Trinity Drive with “attention Mrs. Brugh”.
