New Mexico State Police Arrest Suspect Wanted For Homicide In Illinois

NMSP News:

QUAY COUNTY – On Nov. 4, 2025, at approximately 5 p.m., a New Mexico State Police (NMSP) officer was patrolling in Quay County when he was alerted by NMSP dispatch of a License Plate Reader (LPR) hit. The alert indicated a stolen vehicle from Illinois was traveling westbound on Interstate 40 near milepost 342. The vehicle was also connected to an ongoing homicide investigation being conducted by the Cicero Police Department in Illinois.

The NMSP officer located the vehicle and conducted a felony traffic stop on I-40 near milepost 345. The vehicle was occupied by two males, one being a juvenile. Both males were detained, and the driver was identified through a Texas Identification Card as Naman Alfredo Vazquez.

Vazquez was placed under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle. He was transported to the NMSP Office in Tucumcari for processing, and the vehicle was towed from the scene for further investigation.

While at the Tucumcari office, detectives from the Cicero Police Department contacted NMSP and confirmed that the stolen vehicle was registered to a homicide victim from their jurisdiction. Cicero detectives advised that Vazquez was the primary suspect, alleged to have shot, killed, and burned the victim before fleeing Illinois.

The NMSP Investigations Bureau was notified and obtained search warrants for the vehicle and for Vazquez at the request of Cicero detectives. Vazquez declined to provide a statement to investigators.

Subsequently, Cicero Police Department detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Vazquez with First-Degree Murder. The juvenile in the vehicle was released to a relative.

Vazquez was transported to the Quay County Detention Center, where he was booked without incident while waiting for extradition back to Illinois.
