Op-Ed: One Is The Loneliest Number That You’ll Ever Do … An Open Letter To Bryan Fearey

Dear Bryan,

For a candidate who claims to be able to bring valuable experience to the UNM-LA Advisory Board, your campaign slogan/strategy of “VOTE for ONE” is a little puzzling, given that we need THREE new board members to be elected this year, and not just one, in order for the board to function adequately. So what do you mean “Vote for One”… which one were you referring to?

In a non-partisan election, how does this strategy benefit our community? How does it benefit UNM-LA? On the surface, it appears to only benefit you IF you are the ONE you are referring to??? But why would you say that on your sign? Very confusing. That image on your sign is not encouraging for a vision of the future of our higher education system, nor for our democratic ideals.

And yes, I will give my 3 UNM-LA votes of support to David Hampton, Conner Tharp, and Andrew Fischer Wright because the first two have already been on the board successfully carrying out the mission of UNM-LA and, in addition, have served and are serving on several boards in our community, and supporting Los Alamos events.  David has contributed so much to Los Alamos in every way. He participates in multiple boards, works on trails, and is constantly volunteering to help others. Andrew is already an active member of the community, serving on several boards, after completing Leadership Los Alamos with Conner. The fact that both Andrew and Conner have recent graduate degrees is a plus because they are quite aware of what students are experiencing AND it is certainly time we get some young blood running our community who respect the guidance of those with more experience and knowledge.

VOTE FOR 3 for UNM-LA!!
