Cone Zone: Week Of Sept. 29, 2025

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County services such as mail delivery, trash and recycling collection, and emergency services will be maintained for each project detailed below.

Residents and businesses will often experience large equipment and construction noise. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to always use caution and slow down around construction activities and avoid entering work zones outside of designated detour paths.

Road and Utility Work:

North Mesa & North Community Pavement Preservation Project

  • Location: 39th, 37th, 36th, North Mesa Road, San Ildefonso Road, Stoneview Drive
  • Date: Sept. 29 – Oct. 5
  • Time: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (weather permitting)
  • Impact: Vehicles will not be allowed to park on the roadway during working hours. Flaggers may direct traffic during certain construction events. A pilot car will be in used on San Ildefonso Road.

Pavement markings removal and installation

  • Location: Diamond Drive and Central Ave./15th St.
  • Date: Through Oct. 3
  • Time: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Impact: Vehicle traffic will be shifted partially to accommodate road work.

  • Time: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Impact: Traffic cones will be present. Motorists are asked to avoid driving on fresh paint.

Sewer Line Repair

  • Location: 437 Bryce Ave, White Rock
  • Date: Sept. 19–30
  • Time: Closure in place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Impact: CLOSURE from Bryce Ave. at Connie Ave. west towards Aragon Ave. Detours will be in place on Connie Ave. and Aragon Ave.

Jemez Mountain Fire Protection Project water pipeline installation

  • Location: West Road and Camp May Road, Los Alamos
  • Date: Through Nov. 2025
  • Time: Monday–Thursday
  • Impact: Camp May Road closed Monday- Thursday, as are trails accessible from Camp May Road. Entrance/exit to Camp May is closed and locked from Sunday afternoon until Friday morning.

Concrete Barrier Wall Removal

  • Location: Trinity Drive at Ashley Pond Park in Los Alamos
  • Date: Sept. 19–23
  • Time: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Impact: Lane shift to the left for westbound traffic. Vehicle and bicycle traffic will share the road.

Sidewalks and curb and gutter replacement

  • Location: Cheryl Ave. and Aragon Ave., White Rock
  • Date: Through Sept. 30
  • Time: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Impact: Periodic sidewalk and lane closures

ADA Ramp Installation at Pinon Elementary School and Valley Gutter Repair – Piñon School Access Road Construction

  • Location: Sherwood Blvd. at Pinon Elementary School, White Rock
  • Date: Sept. 17–Oct. 31
  • Time: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Impact: Sidewalk Closure and road work ahead

Crack Sealing

  • Location: Sioux, Cheyenne, Iroquois, Seminole, Yuma, and Ute streets, Broadview and Estates Drives, Tiffany Ct. Kristi Lane, Scotts Way, Cooper and Mountain View Place in Los Alamos.
  • Date: Through Sept. 30
  • Time: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Impact: Moving flagging operation and temporary lane closures.

  • Date: Oct. 1–6
  • Time: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Impact: Moving flagging operation and temporary lane closures.

LANL: Repaving of East Jemez Road

  • Location: East Jemez Road, from the NM-4 intersection (mile marker 10) to the start of the three lanes and the climbing lane (mile marker 7.6)
  • Date: Through Sept. 30
  • Time: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Seven days a week
  • Impact: Anticipate traffic delays and potential traffic pattern shifts during this project.

LANL: Rockfall remediation on East Jemez Road

  • Location:  East Jemez Road, by the slopes from mile marker 7 to 7.5
  • Date: Sept. 29 through December
  • Time: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week
  • Impact: The right-hand truck lane traveling west will be CLOSED for the duration of the project. E. Jemez Road (Truck Route) will have a FULL ROAD CLOSURE on the following weekends:
    • Oct. 11–12, 18–19, 25–26
    • Nov. 1–2, and 8–9 from Saturday at 6 a.m. through Sunday at 4 p.m.

Special Events:

EVENT: 45th Annual Fall Craft Fair

  • Location: Central Park Square and Downtown in Los Alamos
  • Date: Oct. 4
  • Time: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Impact: Significant increase in pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic expected around the time of the event – especially at the beginning and end for vendor set-up and tear-down.
